AS the director of Evergreen, Steve Nardelli, is only too keen to stress, his 'Sports Disneyland' project is still in its very early stages.
Nevertheless, the public announcement that his company made regarding its intention to seriously consider building the scheme near Aston Clinton has caused both excitement and dismay amongst local residents.

The premise certainly sounds good (especially if local sports clubs like The Lynx Gym and Aylesbury United can somehow be incorporated into the scheme), as do elements such as the anti-bullying bootcamp, spearheaded by Aylesbury campaigner Neil Axe, which appears to be something the country- let alone the Vale- could greatly benefit from.

But it is right that this newspaper also reports the concerns of people who live near the proposed site, who don't want a monumental development of casinos, waterparks, hotels etc, which, in their view, would be more suitable for a city like Las Vegas, not neighbouring a village in the Vale.

Perhaps in this respect, the very term 'Sports Disneyland,' which Evergreen uses to describe the scheme, does not do the project any favours.

But Mr Nardelli says the features and size of the development have yet to be decided, and that the whole reason they made their announcement was because they want feedback from the public which will steer the direction the project takes.

Serious questions obviously remain- but we should all let our voices be heard so that something which could do so much good for the Vale, does just that.

We want to know your views on the proposals.
